
CEBU'S TOP AMATEUR JUNREL JIMENEZ TO TURN PRO

Junrel Jimenez of Team Cebu City, arguably one of the best amateurs to come out of Cebu will be testing the waters in the paid ranks. The date and venue is still tentative but it can either be Cebu City Sports Center or the new Cebu Coliseum probably second week of March. Headlining the said event will be undefeated super bantamweight prospect Dodie Boy Penalosa Jr., another former amateur standout of Team Cebu City and son of two-time world campion Dodie Boy Penalosa.
Eighteen-year old Jimenez is also a "cobra", a varsity player in boxing of Southwestern University and has been considered many times to join the Philippine national amateur boxing team because of his exceptional exploits in the sport. He has reportedly over a hundered amateur bouts with only six losses to his credit. Jimenez is a consistent gold medal winner in several national and regional amateur boxing championsips like Palarong Pambansa, Philippine National Games, Batang Pinoy, PLDT-ABAP Championships and CVIRAA. The young up and comer will be trained by former pro boxer Amad Almerino and managed by sportsman Lorenzo "Chao" Sy.
