NBA -- Hawks swat pesky Sixers, extend win-streak to 19

CHICAGO -- After squandering a 21-point first-half lead against the lowly Philadelphia 76ers, the Atlanta Hawks' season-best winning streak was in serious danger on Saturday night when they fell behind, 83-81, with just 2:51 left to play.
But the Hawks wouldn't be denied. Showing the toughness and resiliency that have defined their season thus far, the Hawks answered the bell with a 5-0 run that gave them the lead they never relinquished the rest of the way.
Al Horford's mid-range bucket and Dennis Schroder's deep 3 carried the Hawks to a well-earned 91-85 triumph in front of 19,006 home fans at the Philips Arena in Atlanta. Atlanta sank 34 of 78 shots (43.6 percent) including 10 of 28 form above the 3-point arc (35.7 percent).
The triumph was the Hawks' 19th straight. They haven't lost since beating the Bucks in Milwaukee last December 27 and they finished the month of January with a blistering 17-0 tear.
"That was a rough game, we had to battle it out and win any way possible," Jeff Teague told the Associated Press after scoring 10 points and seven assists. Horford led all Hawks with 23 points and 11 rebounds while Paul Millsap and Schroder checked in with 15 points apiece.
Michael Carter-Williams, Luc Richard Mba a Moute and Jerami Grant each had 13 points to pace the Sixers. Hollis Thompson added 12 while Noel pitched in 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Sixers shot a remarkable 35 triples but converted only 14. They also missed 50 of their 81 total field goals.
At 40-8 the Hawks own the best record in the NBA. The Sixers, meanwhile, linger near the Eastern Conference abyss with a 10-38 slate. (Homer Sayson)
