CHICAGO -- The sad 2014-2015 Los Angeles Lakers season just got sadder.

Kobe Bryant, the face of the franchise for years, will go under the knife on Wednesday to repair a torn rotator. Facing months of rehabilitation, the expectation is that he will be out for the remainder of this season.

"Kobe is probably not going to play again this season," Lakers head coach Byron Scott told ESPN on Monday.

Kobe, 36, appeared in 35 games this season and is averaging a robust 22.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.6 assists an outing.

This is however, the third consecutive season-ending injury. He tore his Achilles in 2013 and broke a bone near his left knee last year.

Bryant is the highest paid player in the NBA, raking in $23.5 million this season. Next season, in the final year of his contract, he will make $25 million. (Homer Sayson)
