KNOCKOUT artist JR Mendoza of Koronadal City will face local bet Adam Diu "Big Daddy" Abdulhamid in a rematch Saturday night at 6 p.m. at the Oval Plaza covered court in General Santos City.

The 25-year old Mendoza outpointed Abdulhamid in their first encounter last November 27 at the SAFI compound in Barangay Tambler during the birthday boxing promotion of Jim Claude Manangquil of Sanman Promotions.

"It was a very close fight. Gusto ni Abdulhamid makabawi kay Mendoza," said Manangquil.

Mendoza was supposed to fight against Abdulhamid's stablemate Harmonito "Lights Out" dela Torre, reigning World Boxing Federation (WBF) world super featherweight champion in a non-title 10-round bout.

But dela Torre got sick with flu and was adviced by his doctor to take a much-needed rest.

"Hindi na namin pinilit na ilaban pa siya (Dela Torre)," Manangquil said.

Mendoza has a record of 10 wins, 4 KOs and 17 loses while Abdulhamid has 3 wins-1 KO-2 loses.

The 20-year old Abdulhamid previously outclassed Gabby Siempo by unanimous decision last October 9, 2014. The 5-foot-8 southpaw enjoys a height advantage against Mendoza, who only stands at 5'4.

The boxing card is the inaugural presentation for this year by Sanman Promotions also owned by Dexter Tan and John Ray Manangquil. It is free to the public.

The curtain raiser will feature the pro ring debut of former New Zealand amateur boxer Benne Jade Slight also of Sanman against Michael Manambay in a 4-rounder 140-pound bout.

Also pitted in the undercard are Sanman's five other boxers - Ronnie Tanallon, Romero Duno, Markquil Salvana, Reymart Gaballo and Mike Angelo Plania.

Tanallon fights Amiero Ricablanca in 8 rounds for 108 pounds. Duno takes on Rey Liparamon (6 rds.-126 lbs.), Salvana faces Rolando Omela (6 rds.-112 lbs.), Gaballo collides with Paolo Romero (6 rds.-118 lbs.) and Plania test his mettle against Jose Cawsing (6 rds.-118 lbs.). -- LITO DELOS REYES
