Filipino boxer Roli Gasca has lost a controversial split decision to IBO featherweight champion Lusanda ?Schoolboy? Komanisi at the Orient Theater in South Africa.

The Manila Standard/Viva Sports learned from trainer Edmund Villamor that ?the hometown decision was booed by the crowd.?
Gasca is a skilled boxer but lacks explosive power and according to trainer Villamor he deserved to win as evidenced by the fight fans reaction.

Such bad decisions are common in South Africa as another Filipino challenger Michael Dasmarinas also lost by a split decision in an IBO junior bantamweight title fight to Lwandile Sityatha in a fight marred by wide discrepancies in the scorecards of the three judges. Two of the judges scored the fight for the South African 116-112 while the third judge scored it by a lopsided 118-110 for Dasmarinas who dominated the later rounds as Sityatha who vomited in his dressing room before the fight, visibly tired.

It was Gasca?s second loss in a title fight in South Africa having lost to the much bigger Thabo Sonjica in a clash for the vacant IBO super bantamweight title in which Sonjica came in overweight and lost his chance to win the title, on the scales.

The 25 year old Gasca who was ranked No. 22 by the IBO dropped to 22-6 with 6 knockouts in what was his third attempt to win an IBO title having also dropped a unanimous decision to Russia?s Alexander Bakhtin in September 2008.

Prior to the fight South African media reported that the odds were stacked against Gasca who had a 27 percent knockout ratio compared to the champion?s almost 80 percent KO ratio behind a record of 18-3 with 16 knockouts.
