Former World Boxing Council flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro?s rematch with rugged Danilo ?Pit Bull? Pena will be telecast on the toprated weekly boxing show ?The Main Event? on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. on P9inoy Box Office (PBO) over Sky Cable with a replay on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
The eight round bout was a scheduled ?stay busy fight? for Sonny Boy Jaro who is scheduled to battle super flyweight champion Carlos Principe? Cuadras of Mexico on February 14.
The former world champion who is best remembered for his stunning 6th round TKO victory over Thailand?s longtime champion and 2012 WBC ?Fighter of the Year? Pongsaklek Wonjongkam whom he dropped several times en route to the smashing victory fought a careful but relaxed fight against Pena who had knocked him out in the 4th round in their first meeting.
Pena reportedly took the fight on short notice and although he occasionally connected with looping lefts, Jaro controlled the tempo of the bout with good combinations to the body and head to win a fairly lopsided decision.
All three judges scored the fight for Sonny Boy Jaro with Gil Co and Gerald Tomeldon turning in cards of 78-74 with Ferdinand Estrella having Jaro the winner by a slightly wider 79-73 margin.
The win improved Sonny Boy Jaro?s record to 38-13-5 with 27 knockouts and boosted his confidence in the lead up to the title showdown with the talented Cuadras.
With the loss Pena dropped to 26-21-2 with 11 knockouts.
