World title contender Denver Cuello and former world champion Sonny Boy Jaro will see action in a fight card at the Angono, Rizal Sports Complex on Sunday.
Promoter Aljoe Jaro told the Manila Standard/Viva Sports that Cuello, the hard-hitting southpaw with a record of 34-5-6 with 22 knockouts and is ranked No. 4 in the world will face Indonesia?s Sammy Hagler in a ?tune-up fight? in preparation for a possible world title shot which Aljoe Jaro will discuss with WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman during the premier boxing organization?s 52nd Annual Convention in Las Vegas from December 14-20.
Cuelo who suffered a dislocated shoulder early in his title fight against then champion Xiong Zhao Zhong at the International Trade Center in Dubai on June 28, 2013 underwent surgery and was sidelined for more than a year.
He returned to the ring last October 11 and forced Thailand?s Jaipetch Chaiyonggym to retire in the seventh round and is looking forward to another impressive performance against journeyman Hagler who has a record of 18-27-2 with 3 knockouts. In his last fight on November 14, Hagler dropped a unanimous twelve round decision to Thailand?s Pigmy Kokietgym in a clash for the vacant Pan Asia Boxing Association minimum weight title.
One of Cuello's most exciting performances was when he won the WBC Silver title with a smashing 2nd round TKO over heavily fancied Mexican Ganigan Lopez on My 19, 2012 in Mexico.
32 year old Sonny Boy Jaro who won the WBC flyweight title with a stunning 6th round TKO over longtime champion and WBC ?Fighter of the Year? for 2012 Pongsaklek Wonjongkam in March 2012 in which he dropped the veteran Thai in rounds 1 and 3 and twice in round 6.
Sonny Boy Jaro who scored a 5th round TKO over Ichal Tobida last June 28, taking Tobida out with a vicious body shot is set to battle undefeated Mexican super flyweight champion Carlos ?Principe? Cuadras sometime in February according to Aljoe Jaro.
Cuadras retained his title with a 6th round TKO of another Filipino Marvin Mabait in Washington D.C. last November 13.
Sonny Boy Jaro, a southpaw with a record of 37-13-5 with 27 knockouts and is a devastating puncher will face rugged veteran Danilo ?Pitbull? Pena who has a record of 26?2?2 with 11 knockouts.
In a WBC Asia bantamweight Silver championship Japan?s Yuya Nakamura (1-1, 1 KO) will clash with Indonesia?s far more experienced Rochmad Santoso (11-4, 6 KO?s).
