Filipino minimum weight boxer Michael Rodriguez has been taken into protective custody by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents investigating the death of former WBC Youth flyweight champion Lito Sisnorio and the illegal activities of a syndicate exploiting poor Filipino boxers.
Games and Amusements Board chairman Eric Buhain who is determined to eradicate irregularities attributed to unscrupulous Filipinos and their Thai counterparts disclosed that Rodriguez had provided NBI agents who went to Koronadal with some valuable leads.
In television interviews Rodriguez who was one of six boxers sneaked out of the country to fight in Thailand said they were contacted by former boxer Rey Paciones who works for Bong Obero whose real name is Ranilo Terrania. Obero is allegedly a key figure in the operations of a syndicate victimizing Filipino boxers.
Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today also learned that Sisnorio’s father had been taken to hospital as a result of the anguish caused by his son’s death.
Other boxers who have also fought in Thailand have contacted us expressing their willingness to reveal details of the operations involving members of what Buhain himself has referred to as a syndicate.
