ARUM SAYS HE’LL CAMPAIGN FOR PACQUIAO

Top Rank Promotions Bob Arum says he will campaign for Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao who is going up against incumbent South Cotabato congresswoman Darlene Antonino Custodio in the May elections.

The congresswoman who is seeking her final term is regarded as an intelligent, charming individual from a well-entrenched political family but Pacquiao’s supporters have expressed confidence he can defeat Custodio in the elections.

Arum who is trying his hardest to win the favor of Pacquiao who is at the center of Arum’s legal battles with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions who signed a seven fight contract with Pacquiao two months before Arum inked a four-year deal with Pacquiao was quoted by Fight News as saying “I so believe in Manny’s issues, I have decided to accept his invitation to go to General Santos City to stump for him.”

However, it was obvious that Arum, a lawyer, didn’t know that Philippine election laws strictly prohibit foreigners from interfering in Philippine elections.

The astute promoter noted that every time he opens a press conference or gets interviewed he winds up giving a campaign speech for Pacquiao.

At the same time Arum praised Pacquiao saying “with all his success Manny has not lost touch with the people. He wants to give back and I applaud the personal sacrifice he is making on behalf of his community.”
