Michael Farenas' dream of fighting for a world title just suffered a setback when he lost tonight against unbeaten Jose Pedraza of Puerto Rico in an IBF Junior Lightweight title eliminator.
Pedraza (19-0, 12 KOs) dominated Farenas over 12 rounds, winning by a Unanimous Decision in front of his countrymen at a fight held at the Coliseo Pedrin Zorilla in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico and televised over pay-per-view via Direct TV in the United States.
Farenas was bloodied in both of his eyes, courtesy of Pedraza's accurate and hard punches. He fought a game fight against a very good opponent, he kept pressing Pedraza throughout the fight despite suffering the injury to his eyes in the early stages of the bout.
But Pedraza made the Filipino missed with his punches and the knockout punch from Farenas' never came.
The scores after 12 rounds were: 117-111, 118-110 and 116-112, all in favor of the young Puerto Rican boxer.
Farenas dropped his record to 39 wins against 5 defeats and 4 draws.
More importantly for the Filipino warrior, his chances of fighting for the IBF 130 pound crown just got slimmer after this loss.
