CUELLO TKO'S CHAIYONGYM IN 7TH; MAGBANUA, VILLANUEVA, ASENJO WIN

Former world ranked Denver "The Excitement" Cuello proved that he is now back with his old deadly form by stopping Jaipetch Chaiyongym of Thailand via a 7th round technical knockout.
Cuello landed countless left punches that swollen the right eye of his Thai rival. Cuello kept on targeting the damaged eye until Chaiyongym finally quit before the start of the 7th round.
Cuello was also tuning up for probable title-fight
MAGBANUA, VILLANUEVA, ASENJO WIN
Meanwhile, all the other fighters of the Sonshine Sports Management Inc. defeated their respectivel rivals in the undercard of the star-studded boxing card.
Lorenzo Villanueva of Cotabato connected his solid combinations to damage the nose of Gadwen Tubigon of Dipolog and score a TKO in 38 seconds of the 9th round.
Ring physician Dr. Edgar Tan stopped the fight due to the damage of Tubigon's broken nose.
Villanueva started strong but slowed down in the 5th allowing Tubigon to get his confidence and antics. But Villanueva regained his strength to hurt Tubigon's nose in the 8th round.
Ex-world rated Roland Magbanua of Cotabato landed powerful blows to knockout Joel Escol of Sarangani in 1:53 of the opening round.
Magbanua connected a solid left cross to send Escol on the canvas for good. Escol first survived an accidental low blow in the early round and had to be given a five minute rest by referee Albert Heramil.
The fight resumed with Escol trying to hit Magbanua with bodyshots. After allowing Escole to throw some jabs, Magbanua then resumed his attack with solid body blows.
A whooping left cross ended the fight.
Undefeated Rommel Asenjo of Cotabato came up short on his game plan. But Asenjo still won against Boholano Powel Balaba by a majority decision in their 8-rounder match.
Judges Romy Fordaliza and Sabas Polpol both scored it 77-75 in favor of Asenjo while judge Mario de Rama saw it a draw at 76-all.
Asenjo stared slow in the first three rounds before he finally threw his left-right combinations with bodyshots to stop Balaba's attack.
"Nanggigil kasi ako. Gusto ko talaga kasing ma knockout siya," Asenjo said.
Trainer Dante Lerio said Asenjo only found his right momentum in the last three rounds by releasig his left-right combination ahead of Balaba.
"But na lang inaatake na nya agad," Lerio said.
MANOBO BOXER BEATS MUSLIM FIGHTER
Manobo boxer Michael Andip Bravo of Cotabato landed more telling blows to beat Muslim fighter Saddam Barambangan of Sarangani Province by a unanimous decision in their 4-rounder bout.
All three judges scored 39-37 in favor of Bravo. The two fighters, who entered the arena in their native costumes immediately started trading blows with Bravo taking the slight edge.
Bravo, however, landed the more telling blows in the last three rounds despite the fearless counter-attack of Barambangan.
"There should be a rematch for these guys. Ang ganda ng laban nila. It's like a tribal war," said SSMI COO Soc Pinol.
Former Panabo City Boxing Team standouts Ryan "Rapido" Lumacad and Jaime Quitoriano both made their successful debuts in the SSMI stable.
Lumacad remained undefeated in his comeback by knocking out Robert Awitin of Butuan in 43 seconds of the 3rd round.
Lumacad, a native of General Santos City, landed a right cross on the midsection to send down Awitin near the ropes. Awitin was still lying on the canvas when referee Abduil Marajan finished the mandatory count.
"Masayang-masaya po ako talaga dahil nanalo ulit ako," said Lumacad, who thanked Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and SSMI for giving him a chance to resume his ring career.
Quitoriano, on the other hand, scored a unanimous decision win over Bryan Samson to improve his record to 2 wins and 2 loses.
Promising Rosekie ?Kapre? Cristobal of Cotabato used his height advantage and boxing skills to survive against the never-say die Robert Awitin of Cebu and earned a unanimous decision win.
The 5-foot-10 Cristobal connected stinging jabs and body shots to keep 5-foot-3 Awitin at bay in their 6-round bout.
BORNEA TWINS PREVAIL
Jade Bornea scored three knockdowns in the opening round for a technical knockout victory against Bohol's Albert Muring in 2:03 during the curtain raiser.
His twin brother Jake later scored a unanimous decision win over Rogen Flores in their 8-rounder bout.
In the other bouts, Roberto Udtuhan of Davao del Norte stopped Butuan's Renz Llagas by a 3rd rond TKO in 2:20 while Jilbert Gomera of Gensan crushed Jun Ryan Quimbo of Cebu by a unanimous decision.
