BOXING REVOLUTION 2: Asenjo vows to KO rival to earn title-crack anew

DAVAO CITY -- Former World Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental mini-flyweight champion Rommel ?Little Assassin? Asenjo wants to get another title-crack by knocking out his rival in the Boxing Revolution II: Clash of Little Titans on Saturday night, Oct. 11 at the Almendras gym.
The 26-year old Asenjo, a native of Pigcawayan, North Cotabato will be fighting against Bohol?s Richard Rosales in an 8-round, 107 lbs. battle in the undercard.
"Kung puede nako ma knock-out mas maayo," said Asenjo, who has a ring record of 25 wins with 20 knockouts and only three loses and no draw.
Rosales, on the other hand, has 8 wins with 3 KOs and two loses and two draws. The 21-year old Rosales won his last fight via unanimous decision against Sherwin McDo Lungay last August 18 in Bohol.
Rosales was earlier disqualified for punching Rowel Garcia when he was down in round 5 of their fight held Feb. 14 in Cebu. Garcia was visibly shaken and could no longer continue.
"Delikado na kalaban si Rosales dahil my pang-knockout din siya," said trainer Dante Lerio at the SCOOP Session of The Royal Mandaya Hotel Tuesday.
Lerio, however, is not too worried since he thinks Asenjo is well prepared and is ready to show back his old form.
The 5-foot-2 Asenjo fought but lost to Mexican Raul Garcia by a third round technical knockout in their WBO world miniflweight championship fight on April 30, 2011 in Mexico City.
Asenjo came back home to bounce back by stopping Arnel Tadena by retirement in the 5th rond on that same year in Bacolod.
Asenjo then also beat Jae Yagahon, Jonathan Ricablanca and Brobro Languido before scoring a first round knockout due to body shots on Michael Borja last June 28 at Almendras gym.
"Nagpapasalamat po ako talaga sa Diyos na binigyan nya akong ng talent sa boxing. Salamat din kay Pastor Apollo Quiboloy at kay Gov. Manny Pinol sa malaking tulong nila sa aming mga boxers," Asenjo said.
Asenjo and his fellow stablemates are now being handled by the Sonshine Sports Management Inc. with Pastor Quiboloy and Pinol as the chairman/president and CEO, respectively.
Lerio said Asenjo is one of their boxers being lined up for a possible title-crack for the Philippine title.
Also included are former interim WBO Oriental bantamweight champion Rolando ?Smooth Operator? Magbanua and former IBO world rated featherweight Lorenzo ?Thunderbolt? Villanueva.
The 5-foot-7 Villanueva, who tots a ring record of 26 wins, 1 loss and no draw will face Cebu?s Gadwin Tubigon (10W-10L-2D) in 10 rds.-130 lbs. while 29-year old Magbanua (25 W-15 KO-2 L) takes on former IBF Pan Pacific super bantamweight champion Joel Escol of Glan, Sarangani Province (8W-15L-3D) in 10 rds.-126 lbs. also this Saturday.
The 5'5 Tubigon fought but lost in the vacant WBF International super featherweight title-fight by retirement last May 3 while Escol was dethroned by Fahsan 3K Battery in Thailand July 2005.
Both Villanueva and Magbanua refused to make any prediction against their separate opponents. But they vowed to give all their best on the ring.
"Tingnan nyo na lang sa laban. Ibibigay namin ang lahat ng aming makakaya upang manalo," said Villanueva, who knocked out Hendrik Barongsay in the first round last June 28.
Magbanua, on the other hand, won by a unanimous decision over JR Mendoza in the same card.
Pitted in the triple main headers are top Filipino flyweights IBO Jr. flyweight champion Rey Loreto, world-ranked miniflyweight Denver Cuello and former IBO champion Dapudong.
Loreto takes on Indonesian Heri Amol, while Cuello faces Jaipecth Chaiyonggym and Dapudong collides with Wisanlek Sithsaithong both from Thailand.
