The five-man rowing team will have the honor of opening the country?s campaign in the coming 17th Asian Games. Incheon, South Korea is hosting the event for the second time in 12 years.
Rowing, according to Philippine Olympic Committee treasurer and deputy chef de mission of the 160-strong Philippine contingent Julian Camacho, is one of 11 sports that will be disputed ahead of the opening day.
Competition in this water sport, Camacho, who attended the CDM meeting along with Philippine Sports Commission chair and delegation head Ritchie Garcia, said during inaugural airing of SPORTS SABADO last Saturday, will start September 15 or five days before what is expected elaborate opening ceremony on September 19 at the newly-built Incheon Asiad Main Stadium at the heart of the host city.
Camacho, who is also the secretary general of the Wushu Federation of the Philippines, added during the public service forum, sponsored by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, PSC and Rain or Shine, announced, too, that hostilities in basketball, equestrian, fencing, judo, shooting, tennis, weightlifting, wushu, swimming and artistic gymnastics will commence before the Olympic-style inaugural rites on September 17.

Swimmers and artistic gymnasts start to display their wares on the eve of the opening on September 19, Caxmacho said.
