Bacolod's Juan Purisima faces Roman Gonzalez in Japan

BACOLOD CITY -- Philippine Boxing Federation flyweight champion Juan ?Punisher? Purisima (11-1-4 win-draw-loss, 4KOs) of Top Prime Stable of Bacolod City will test the undefeated and reigning WBA light flyweight champion Roman ?Chocolatito? Gonzalez (38 wins, 32 KOs) of Nicaragua in a 10-round clash on April 6, 2014 at Ota-City General Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan.

Purisima, who hailed from General Santos City, is looking forward to bounce back from a unanimous decision defeat against undefeated Ukrainian Artem Dalakian for the WBA International Flyweight championship held in August 2013 in Donbass Arena in Donetsk, Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Gonzalez, who is also a former WBA minimumweight champion, is coming off from 4 straight victories all by TKO.

Early February of this year, Gonzalez knocked Mexican Juan Kantun in 1:01 of the 6th round while, in November last year, he easily handled another Mexican Oscar Blanquet in 27 seconds of the 2nd round.

Newly-crowned WBO minimumweight champion Francisco Rodriquez Jr. of Mexico, who dethroned Bacoleno Merlito ?Tiger? Sabillo on Sunday, also suffered a 7th round TKO in the hands of Gonzalez in September of last year. The Nicaraguan champion dropped Rodriguez with only 1:10 of the said round.

Another Gonzalez victim is Columbian Ronald Barrera who bowed down in 2:42 of the 5th round during their clash in May last year.

And, one of the familiar names in his division is Mexican Ramon Garcia Hirales, who kissed the canvas in the 4th round of the scheduled 12-round battle in April of 2012. This is Hirales? back-to-back defeat after lost to reigning WBO light flyweight champion Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes of Murcia in 2011 at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum.

For the Top Prime Stable fighter, he?s confident that he can match Gonzalez. ?I know I can match him. I saw his previous fights. And, his only advantage is experience,? said Purisima.

?I will do my best to win this fight,? he added.
