Golden Boy Promotions, in its San Francisco stop last Tuesday to announce the May 5 Oscar De la Hoya-Floyd Mayweather showdown, has announced that undefeated Filipino Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista of the ALA Boxing Gym will be the main supporting attraction in this blockbuster card, which is expected to break all pay-per-view records.
"My heart swelled no end when it was bared that the comer from your stable is the main supporting attraction in the blockbuster card which is certain top the charts," said the US-based boxing scholar Hermie Rivera in a message to Bautista's chief handler Antonio L. Aldeguer.
The announcement was made in front of a jampacked throng at San Francisco's City Hall, at 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place.
Bautista will take on another unbeaten fighter, Argentina's Sergio Manuel Medina (28-0, 16 KO's) in an eliminator for the WBO superbantamweight title.
Another undefeated ALA fighter, Alex John Banal, also sees action in the Cinco de Mayo card, said GBP vice-president Eric Gomez.
Both Bautista and Banal will leave for Puerto Rico middle of March, where they will join the legendary Oscar De la Hoya as they prepare for their respective May 5 assignments.
Calling the shots for the three fighters will be two-time Trainer of the Year awardee Freddie Roach.
