To sustain public interest generated by the recent historic Ateneo-La Salle UAAP women?s volleyball championship series, the general admission for the coming 16th Asian Men?s Club the country is hosting for the first time on April 8-16 in two venues will be opened free to the public.

Dr. Philip ?Popoy? Ella Juico, chair of the tournament?s organizing committee, and administration and operations director Dr. Ian Laurel announced during last week?s SCOOP Sa Kamayan On Air forum that both games sites ? that the SM MoA Arena and Cuneta Astrodome, both in Pasay City -- have agreed to open their general admission sections for free to Filipino sports enthusiasts that are expected to watch the games, especially those involving the hosts? team.

?The Philippine Volleyball Federation as well as the Sports Event Management and Consultancy (SCORE), in our efforts to further promote and develop the sport here, have agreed to invite as many volleyball enthusiasts as possible to watch our games and sustain the interest our sports public had just shown in the last UAAP finals involving Ateneo and La Salle,? Dr., Juico, a former Philippine sports Commission chair and now president of the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club, reasoned out.

Game 3 rubber match of the Ateneo-La Salle championship tussle, a first in the league held also at the MoA, drew 21, 300 plus crowd, the biggest ever in any volleyball tournament locally.

Laurel, for his part, said during the forum aired over DZAR 1026 KHZ on the AM band and also viewed live via streaming at www.sonshinetvradyo.com, that lower box and ringside tickets are only priced at a very low P50 and P100, respectively, precisely to allow more people see how the finest volleyball players in Asia strut their wares.

?This is the only first time that the country is hosting the prestigious tournament involving countries that are not only the finest in this part of the world but also world-ranked, so we thought of lowering the prices of tickets and offer free the general admission sections of both MoA and the Astrodome gratis et amore,? Laurel, the PVF vice president assured.

Those who wouldn?t be able to make it to the games venues can witness the proceedings live over TV 5.

The Asian-level tournament, which drew 18 teams, two more than the 16 that took part in the FIBA-Asia championship held here last year and also sponsored by PLDT, is the biggest to be held this shore.

Club teams, representing such world volleyball posers as defending champion Iran, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Korea, Japan and China will all be on hand to display their wares along with Hongx Kong, India, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Turkmenistan, Chinese Taipei, Mongolia, Oman, Papua New Guinea, United Arab Emirates and the Philippines.

The Philippines, made up of selection coming from the Super Liga teams as well stalwarts of the UAAP and NCAA leagues, has, fortunately, been bracketed in the elimination round in Group A with Iraq, Kuwait and Mongolia, according to Juico and Laurel .

?Hopefully, we could win at least two of the three assignments in the elimination so we can advance to the next round,? chorused Juico and Laurel, who added Kuwait and Mongolia are about in the same level as the hosts and, therefore, ?beatable?.

Other groupings pit title-defending Iran with Japan, Lebanon and Vietnam in Group B; Qatar, Kazakhstan, Oman, Hong Kong and Turkmenistan in Group C; and Chinese Taipei, China, UAE, India and Papua New Guinea in Group D.
