BACOLOD CITY -- The road to victory isn?t easy for the defending champion University of St. La Salle ? Integrated School after passing through tough challenges in the early round of the tournament to end a 3-1 win over Ronald Allan ?Cocoy? Treyes? Trinity Christian School during the U13 division finals of the 2014 Dynamic Football League held over the weekend at the Panaad Park and Stadium.

Dave Javellana?s USLS-IS side had a strong 2-nil start with eventual ?most valuable player? Chyle Miraflores nailing the first goal in the 5th minute as Ralph Castro had it doubled in the 29th minute.

In the second half, USLS-IS scored another goal with Joshua Limco finding the back of the net in the 41st minute while TCS? Ram Emmanuel Treyes connecting a goal in the 46th minute.

En route the finals, USLS-IS mentor, Javellana said, ?we had to make lots of adjustments in our tactical play and players? positioning during the quarterfinals against University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, and in the semifinals against Don Bosco Technical Institute. They were both tough teams to beat.?

?And to be able to get through them made our team more confident and more determined to play for the finals and defend our title against Trinity. We [coaching staff] told the kids never to give up and kept focused,? Javellana said. ?We are very happy to get this victory and defended our title ? knowing that we came from behind during the elimination round,? he added.

It was recalled that Miraflores scored an early 23rd minute goal to lead the USLS-IS side in a 1-nil victory against erstwhile tournament leader DBTI squad during the semis while, the champion survived against UNO-R on a penalty shootout, 7-6 during the quarterfinals.

Completing the USLS-IS side are ?best defender? Yuri Akol, Cassiel Acma, Jose Maria Cajili, Aleksie Cuadra, Marco and Miguel Ditching, Antonio Angel Hom, Giles Gelvoleo, Ryan Locsin, Matthew Maramba, John Vincent and Raymund Occeno, Matthew Rojas, Gursimranjit Singh, and Robbie Tolosa.

Meanwhile, other individual awardees include: ?best striker? Chris Valderama of Andres Bonifacio Elementary School, ?best goalkeeper? John Veloso of TCS and ?best midfielder? Joseph Ciocon of Apolinario Mabini Elementary School.

On the other hand, DBTI blanked AMES, 4-nil to settle for third place.

DBTI head coach Raymando Baldava said that he felt said with how their campaign ended in this tournament. ?We led the eliminations and favored in the semis. Unfortunately, my boys? performances were totally off. They had their examination at school days before the semis. And, it might be one of the reasons why their games went down. Nevertheless, our players had shown what they are capable of,? the veteran mentor said.

For tournament chairman Andrew Infante, DFL 2014 First Conference was a successful tournament. ?We can see improvement in most of the participating teams. We?re glad there were no defaults or game cancellations. This tournament won?t be a success without the cooperation of the coaches and the support of the parents and school administrators,? he stressed.

Also working with Infante are division commissioners Russel Olado (U13) and Louie Yasay (U16), and AFC referee assessor Dennis Estaniel. Sponsoring the tournament is Dynamic Football Club of Ricky Yanson.(WATCHMEN DAILY JOURNAL)
