From playing basketball and visiting the oval, Manny Pacquiao's training for his grudge rematch with defending WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley shifts to the Pacman Wild Card Gym starting today in General Santos City.

"Simula na kami sa gym bukas," Pacquiao's boyhood friend and assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez said yesterday, a day the Filipino ring hero normally reserves to his family and conducting Bible study.

"Light lang muna, a few rounds with the mitts and stretching. He'll also work on the double end ball and speed ball as a start in regaining eyes, hands and feet coordination," Fernandez told this writer in a cell phone interview.

"Alam mo na naman Manny plays basketball regularly kaya yung stamina nya lagi naman nandoon," he explained. "Before flying to the U.S. for the media tour last week, Manny started his road work by running for 30 minutes daily sa Forbes Park kapag nasa Maynila at dito sa GenSan kung nandito sya."

"That's why getting back his stamina and physical condition will be the least of our problem," he assured.

Fernandez, who is overseeing initial preparations with fellow assistant trainers Nonoy Neri and sibling Roger "Haplas" Fernandez in the meantime that chief trainer Freddie Roach has not arrive yet, said he still no idea when the Hall of Fame handler will come.

"Ang dinig ko lang pagkatapos ng laban ni Zhou (Chinese Olympian Zhou Shimming) sa Macau next week sya darating," Fernandez said adding that he also had no knowledge as to who Roach has chosen as his boss' sparring partner.

"Malayo pa naman ang sparring segment ng training camp eh, it can still wait," he surmised. "Baka nga pagdating na namin sa L.A. mag-start ang sparring."

"Ang bilin lang sa amin ni coach Freddie, i-prepare si Manny para
pagdating nya, preparado na si Manny sa very extensive regimen na inihanda nya," he said. "Freddie wants yata na mas maaga kesa kaming dumating sa L.A.," he stated.

"Dati kasi mga from four to six months muna kami dito sa Pilipinas before proceeding to L.A. Last fight against (Brandon) Rios almost nine weeks yata kami dito," he recalled. "Talagang masinsinan ang preparasyson ngayon because both Manny and Freddie are eyeing a revenge of the highway robbery nangyari noong unang laban."

Fernandez was referring to a questionable split decision Bradley dealt the eight-division champion on June 9, 2012, also in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao and Bradley meet again April 12 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.
