CEBU, PHILIPPINES--Reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) superfly king Fernando Montiel of Mexico will give the public a preview of his vast arsenal in a public workout starting 5PM today at the Fight Club in Banilad here.
Montiel will defend his world 115-lb crown against top Filipino prospect Z 'The Dream' Gorres on Saturday in the co-feature of the huge 'Moment of Truth' card at the Cebu City Sports Complex.
Early last week, Gorres had also taken part in a public workout at the Fight Club, along with Rey Bautista.
Both Montiel and Gorres are on track to make the 115-lb regulatory weight limit. The Mexican champion was only 119 lbs last Sunday, while Gorres was 118 lbs and both fighters should be nearing the 115-lb limit.
The co-feature will showcase Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista going up against Colombia's Feider Viloria for the vacant WBO Intercontinental and WBO Asia Pacific Youth superbantam titles.
Viloria, who was supposed to arrive today, is slated to hit town on Wednesday after missing his flight in Baranquilla, Colombia, and encountering transit visa problems in Amsterdam.
Meanwhile, WBO Asia Pacific superfeatherweight champion Simson Butar-Butar of Indonesia had planed in last Sunday with his manager and trainer, then wasted no time sending a strong warning on challenger Jimrex 'The Executioner' Jaca.
"If he thinks he even has a slim chance of dethroning me, then he better wake up. Talking is one thing, fighting is another. He will be eating a good dose of leathers this Saturday," Butar-Butar bragged in his arrival message at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.
The Butar Butar-Jaca fight will start at 8:30 PM on Saturday, followed by the Montiel-Gorres showdown, and then the Bautista-Viloria face-off.
