Gearing forward toward the achievement of the organisation?s goals and objectives, members of the Association of Philippine Professional Boxing Ring Officials ? Luzon Chapter, Inc. (?APPBRO?) held a special meeting to elect a new set of officers. The meeting was held last Sunday, January 19, at the association?s temporary headquarter in Mandaluyong City.

Elected members of the Board of Trustees (?Board?) were Engr. Greg Ortega as the association?s incoming president, Ferdinand Estrella (vice president), Jerold Tomeldan (secretary), Salvador Lopez (treasurer), Gil Co (auditor), Bruce McTavish (public relations officer) and Elmer Lopez (member). Meanwhile, Silvestre Abainza, in recognition of being a past president, was appointed as ex-officio member and adviser.

In his brief speech following the election, Engr. Ortega expressed his recognition of the pioneering work done by his predecessor and by the previous Board. He vowed that such efforts will be continued toward the realisation of APPBRO?s vision: that the Philippines shall be known globally as a constant source of boxing ring officials capable of world class officiating whilst exercising integrity, fairness, and competence. He added that with proper training and display of right attitude amongst the members, the vision is not too far-fetched.

The meeting concluded with an open forum wherein the members raised some of the issues and concerns relative to their profession, both from the individual and organisational perspective. The Board provided assurance that with the support of everyone within the association, they will be addressed in due course.
