ALA Boy Robert Allanic yesterday said he is very excited over the prospect of travelling to the United States for the first time, and fighting Abner Mares on March 2 at the New Alhambra in South Philadelphia.

In an interview at the ALA Gym, Allanic (15-2, 7 KO's), said he could not wait for his chance to take on the undefeated Mares, especially on a Golden Boy promoted card.

"I have been training, and fighting in a Golden Boy show is a dream come true. I'm ready," Allanic, a former amatuer boxing standout, said.

The ALA boy is scheduled for an interview at the US Embassy on February 26, and if everything goes out well, he should be flying to the US just in time for the weigh-in.

Allanic's trainer Edito 'Ala' Villamor, who will accompany the fighter in his American debut, said that based on Mares' last performance in the undercard of the Juan Manuel Marquez-Jimrex Jaca showdown in Hidalgo, Texas, his ward has a solid chance of beating Mares.

The unbeaten Mares, cheered on by his lovely wife Emily and their nine-month-old daughter in that show, stopped previously unbeaten Wilmer Rodriguez in four rounds to improve his record to 10 wins with 6 KO's.

Villamor also trains other ALA fighters such as Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista, Z 'The Dream' Gorres, and Alex John 'Bazooka' Banal.
