GM Oliver Barbosa and GM Ronald Dableo led the 8 masters who volunteered to help raise funds for the typhoon victims organized by Meralco Chess Club last Saturday at Meralco Center in Pasig City. The other masters were IM Chito Garma, NMs Efren Bagamasbad, Gerry Cabellon, Ed Garma, Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr. and Jerad Docena.

80 players, ranging from elementary to college together with Meralco's top players, participated in the multi-simultaneous chess exhibition to raise funds, donations in kind, and awareness to the plight of our kababayans affected by super typhoon Yolanda. UP, PUP, PhilSCA, Ramon Magsaysay HS, Victorino Mapa HS, Taytay Nat'l HS, Jose Diaz Memorial HS, and Bagong Ilog Elementary School sent their best players to have the rare experience of playing with masters.

GM Barbosa said, "When I learned that Meralco Chess Club is organizing a fund-raising simul for our kababayans in Visayas, I decided to volunteer for this chess fund-raising and do something to help."

GM Dableo added, "Doing this simul for the benefit of the typhoon victims is just a small way of thanking God for all the blessings that I received."

The funds and donations were turned over to One Meralco Foundation for its relief operations in Leyte, Iloilo, Aklan, Mindoro, and Aklan. -Marlon Bernardino-
