If plans push through, national boxing treasure Manny Pacquiao may fly direct to Macau on November 18 from General Santos City for his comeback fight with Brandon ?Bam Bam? Rios scheduled a week later at the Cotai Arena inside China?s gambling den Venetian Resort.
Pacquiao?s business manager Michael Koncz told People?s Journal/Manila Standard that there was no definite plan yet on the team?s departure for that gambling city but the eight-division champion has hinted to fly via a private plane to prevent unnecessary disruption in his training schedule.
?Manny himself told me of his desire , to fly the team, which includes the training staff, direct to Macau on board a private plane,? Koncz said in a long distance telephone interview.
By training staff, Koncz meant chief trainer Freddie Roach and his assistants Marvin Somodio, Buboy Fernandez, Noynoy Neri, Roger Fernandez and, perhaps Pacquioao?s wife and Sarangani Vice Gov. Jinkee, if she decides to join the trip that early.
?No, a trip to Manila this coming weekend or a day or two before departure has been ruled out at least until an official scheduled is worked out,? Koncz said.
Koncz also announced that starting today until the day of departure, the closed door policy inside the Pacman Wild Card Gym, where Pacquiao pitched camp will be strictly implemented.
?No one, except members of the training staff will be allowed inside the gym, ?Koncz said declared, adding it was Pacquiao himself who wants to strictly implement the ?closed door? rule.
?And that includes the media. Starting Monday, no media men will be admitted in the gym, no photos and no interviews,? he emphasized in what was tantamount to imposing a news blackout on the remaining days of Pacquiao?s preparations.
The rule on closed door session has actually been in effect since three weeks ago to avoid any kind of distraction on Pacquiao while in training. All kinds of distractions though continue to disrupt gym activities to the consternation of Roach himself, but not because of the presence of media men.
To set the records straight, none, except one or two media outfits which used to cover Pacquiao?s build up program for his previous fights, had gone to General Santos City do the same.
