Negotiations are underway for the second edition of "Idol" in Maasin City with local hometown hero Albert Pagara in the main event against a foreign fighter to be determined by ALA Promotions. The event will be held on November 15, 2013 at the Maasin City Gymnasium.
Pagara was born in Barangay Lib-og in Masin City and he will thrill his folks once more in a fight which will be seen on ABS-CBN Studio 23. It will mark the first time the undefeated fighter will fight on a televised encounter.
The ALA Gym boxer's opponent is either an Indonesian or a Thai. He faced Thai Tawanrung Eausampan and knocked him out at the 1:45 mark in the second round on November 15 last year at the full-house Maasin City Gym.
Pagara has fought in Pinoy Pride Series many times but his bouts were not shown on television because they were only curtain raisers to bigger supporting and main events. This time it is his turn to shine on Philippine television.
A memorandum of agreement is now in the works between the city government and ALA Promotions for the hosting of the boxing event. The show will also include public sparring and workouts, weigh in, press conference, advertisements of the city's tourism attractions, plus the fight itself.
The maiden card of the Idol Boxing Series was held on August 24, 2013 which featured ALA Gym?s Melvin Gumban and Mark Vincent Bernaldez who knocked out their Indonesian foes at the Escalante City Stadium in Escalante City, Negros Occidental. It was aired over Studio 23 on September 14, 2013.
Gumban electrified his hometown fans when he knocked out John Bajawa with 2:21 left of the seventh round. Bernaldez, on the other hand, needed only two minutes to stop Marangin Marbun by a violent knockout in the first round.
The Idol Boxing Series will enable rising boxers to be featured on television for their talents to be discovered. This is a stepping stone for upcoming boxing superstars to showcase their skills and later to be included in the regular and more prestigious Pinoy Pride Series.
