This past weekend at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas and making it to the big time show on the undercard of the boring fight between Juan Manuel Marquez and Timothy Bradley, Jose ?Negro? Ramirez (25-4-15KO) who became famous in the Philippines by beating the ?Pride of Bohol? Rey ?Boom Boom? Bautista (34-3-25KO) and sending him into retirement after capturing the big win by split decision for the WBO International Featherweight Championship this past April 20, 2013 in the beautiful city of Davao.

The crafty kid from Mexicali, Ramirez was up against the two time Olympic Gold medalist from Ukraine Vasyl Lomachenko who was making his pro debut.

Ramirez was fighting for the first time on American soil.
The odds were stacked up against Ramirez coming into this fight, as his team was not intact. His chief trainer Miguel Martinez was not given a temporary United States Visa to accompany his him to Las Vegas and his cutman that he hired, Cebu based Mexican-American Michael Angel Lopez didn?t make the trip due to a family emergency in Cebu. This was the team that he wanted and needed for this big fight. The same team he had when he won his title.

He was accompanied by his close friend from Los Angeles who didn?t even know how to bandage his hands before the fight, so this brought a big psychological disadvantage to Ramirez.
He was not mentally in the fight and the two weeks he was in Los Angeles before the fight without his trainer, did not help. He lost by a 4th round KO.

Ramirez wants to come back to the Philippines, to either fight Jun Doliquez or Genesis Servania as Team Ramirez wants to step down to the super bantamweight division and make a run there. ?If the mangers of Doliquez or Servania want to fight me, contact my advisor Michael Lopez in Cebu,? stated Ramirez.

When the question came up who hits harder between Rey Bautista and Lomachenko, Ramirez said, ?Bautista hits very hard, I was hurt more with Bautista than with Lomachenko. Lomachenko had two precision punches to my body, which is what did me in. I was not 100% mentally ready for this fight. The two weeks I spent in Los Angeles did nothing good for my body. We will regroup and see what the future holds. Even though I was knocked out in this fight, Lomachenko is not all the hype they proclaim he is.?
