GENERAL SANTOS CITY ? With the sad memory of the past year gone, Jinkee Pacquiao, wife of former boxing pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao, expressed belief the father of their four children is ready to reclaim his status as the best fighter in this era.
And with a fifth child coming soon seven months from now, she said, would be an additional motivation for the Filipino ring icon to do well in his coming fight with Brandon ?Bam Bam? Rios come November 24 in China?s gambling city of Macau.
?Inspired sya sa ensayo pa lang, nakita mo naman. As you can see, he?s so inspired training). So, I believe he?ll win and win handily,? Jinkee - who is two months pregnant - said.
When asked what she thinks of the fight. ?Knockout? It will be impressive. Yung knockout, hindi naman kinukuha yun. Darating. The bottom line is - Mananalo tayo! ?
?He?s been training for three or four months na yata. Freddie (Pacquiao?s trainer Freddie Roach) had just arrived, so mas marami pa siyang maitutulong para ihanda si Manny,? Jinkee said, adding she had witnessed Pacquiao?s sparring a couple of times. ?He needs to be focused and I see naman na talagang determined and dedicated siya sa preparation.?
Jinkee reconfirmed her wish for his eight-division hubby to stop fighting and concentrate on rearing their children as well as their partnership to serve the people of Sarangani through government service, quickly adding though: ?Boxing is Manny?s life. He loves the ring. We just pray na walang masamang mangyari sa kanya.?
?Balik na si Manny sa dati (Manny?s back to his old self),? Jinkee told this writer in an chanced interview while she watched Pacquiao do the mitts with the newly-arrived trainer Roach Friday.
?No, he no longer thinks about what happened last year,? Jinkee, newly-elected vice governor of Sarangani where Pacquiao also serves as Congressman, said in reference to Pacquiao?s twin defeats in 2012, particularly the devastating sixth round knockout to old enemy, Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez.
?His KO loss, well, it?s not new to him. To us, too. And he was able to bounce back from those experiences. He came back stronger and more determined. He has and will have no problem with that,? she assured.
?Actually, noong umpisa lang naman kami naging malungkot lahat. Nang tumagal na, to be exact bago kami bumalik dito sa Pilipinas, masaya na kami uli (That KO, actually, affected all of us momentarily. After a while when we got back here in the Philippines, we were again happy),? she recalled.
?Manny kasi is a natural jolly good fellow,? she narrated. ?Kapag may hindi magandang nangyari sa kanya o sa amin, sa aming mga anak, sandali lang siyang magaalaala. Ganoon si Manny (If anything negative happens to us, that will only momentarily sadden him. That Manny is).?
What about the children? ?Well, nalungkot din, siyempre lalo na yung mga lalaki (Jimwell and Michael). But when they saw their Dad was not that affected much, nakalimutan na rin. The girls naman (Princess and Queenie) masyadong bata pa to understand.?
Jinkee attributed Pacquiao?s other calling as a lawmaker and at the forefront of several civic projects make him forget of that 2012 debacle. ?Of course his being a very prayerful guy helps a lot. Solid ang belief nya kay Lord.?
?As you know naman, Manny has many projects aimed at improving the lots of our constituents, in particular, and the Filipinos, in general, like helping the sick and victims of calamities, kaya nauubos din ang oras nya doon,? she said.
