MANILA (PNA) -- A lone basketball goodwill game for the benefit of victims of the nearly two-week encounter between rebel forces and the military will be staged on Sunday at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Called the Smart Friendly Game: Ayuda Zamboanga will see Manila-based Zamboanguenos who excelled in the game Filipinos love the most and call themselves Team Zamboanga go up against Team Sky Force made up stalwarts from the Metromanila school leagues like the UAAP and NCAA.

Proceeds of the solo series will go to the residents of Zamboanga City who are victimized by the on-going crisis, according to chief organizers, Councilor Vincent Guingona and sportsman Rolando ?Juni? Navarro.

Team Zamboanga is composed of current PBA campaigners Gary David, Marc Barroca, Chester Tolomia and Rudy Lingganay and will be reinforced by collegiate Mike Tolomia, Gardo Lanete, RR Garcia, Keifer Ravena, Jojo Belorio, Al-Rauf Julkipli and Robin Rono.

David, a member of FIBA-Asia silver medalist Gilas Pilipinas and Ravena although not Zamboanguenos, volunteered to play to help raise funds for the victims, according to Marvin Padrigao during yesterday?s SCOOP session at the Kamayan Restaurant-Padre Faura.

Sen. Allan Peter Cayetano, Padrigao, added, had also volunteered to see action.

Members of Sky Force side are, among others, Al Verzosa, Erwin Sotto, Ronjay Enrile and Leo Avenido.

?We want to thank MVP (Smart owner Manny V. Pangilian) for supporting this event, which will go a long way to help our fellow Zamboanguenos who are experiencing hardship because of the situation there,? Padrigao said quoting Councilor Guingona.

?We would also like to invite basketball fans to show their support by watching the game,? he added.

?Tickets are prized at P100 and P200 kaya mura lang po at para marami ang maka-afford at makatulong para na rin sa mga biktima ng labanan sa Zamboanga,? Padrigao said.
