MAASIN CITY TRIATHLON 2013

In connection with the 13th Charter Day and Fiesta 2013 Celebrations of the City of Maasin, the Triathlon sa Maasin was held last Sunday and it was participated in by about forty participants from the different parts of the Visayas.
It was the first triathlon in the city in ten years as the last triathlon was held in 2003. The swimming lap started at the port area to the reclamation area at the back of the city hall. The participants were having a hard time because of the big waves due to the southwest monsoon. The bike lap was from the city hall to Barangay Tam-is and back for 20 kilometers. The third lap was a five kilometer run around the poblacion.
There were two categories: 35 years old and under and 36 years old and above. The top three winners received cash prizes with medals and the other winners went home with some goodies.
The results were:
For 35 and under:
1st - Emmanuel Commendador of San Miguel, Bohol, 2nd - Ralph So of Cebu City, 3rd - Mezam Baldomar of Cebu City, 4th - Jonas Tan of Ormoc City, 5th - Andy Toniacao of Hilongos, Leyte, 6th - Jimmy Bolo of Ormoc City, 7th - Louie Agravante of Baybay City, 8th - John Rmeth of Munich, Germany, 9th - Bernie Gomez of Cebu City and 10th - Julmer Espina of Baybay City.
Lap Wiiners are Aimee Dequina of Tagbilaran, Bohol for swim, and Emmanuel Commendador for bike and run.
For 36 and above:
1st - Roger Baronda of Ornoc City, 2nd - Urbano Baculanta of Maasin City, 3rd - Lee Van Gingoyon of Baybay City, 4th - Romeo Ollave of Hilongos, Leyte, 5th - Edcel Panta of Ormoc City, 6th - Arland Cabras of Baybay City, 7th - Brian Morales of Maasin City, 8th - Dennis Roa of Baybay City, 9th - Dioscoro Macalit of Malitbog, So. Leyte, and 10th - Armand Butad of Hilongos, Leyte.
Lap Winners are Romeo Ollave for swim, Urbano Baculanta for bike and Roger Baronda for run.
Women's Category winners are: 1st - Aimee Dequina of Tagbilaran City, 2nd - Aaliya Ricel Mataragnon of Cebu City, 3rd - Cianyl Jamae Gonzales of Cebu City, 4th - Odiza Abellana of Cebu City, and 5th - Hazel Busa of Talisay City.
The event was sponsored by the city government through the Maasin City Sports Council and the Maasin City Cycling Club.
