(Watchmen Daily Journal) -- Bacolod City and the province of Negros Occidental has been the seed bed of top caliber and world class boxers ? and has able to produce number of world champions in the last few years.

Seeing that great potential, the world-known ALA gym of Cebu will soon have its own in the Bacolod City.

This was reaffirmed by Bacolod City Mayor Monico last Saturday at Solaire Resort and Casino.

The local chief executive stressed that upon his conversation with Antonio ?Bidoy? Aldeguer, who was his and GAB Chairman Juan Ramon ?Monju? Guanzon?s basketball mentor during their playing years, an area of the BAYS Center will be established as a boxing gym. ?We will just offer the area and ALA will be the one to provide the facilities,? Puentevella said.

On his part, Aldeguer said that he is also from Bacolod and he just want to help potential boxers from his hometown.

Guanzon, on the other hand, welcomed the proposal given that this will further widen the opportunities for local fighters to achieve their dreams.

At present, Bacolod and Negros Occidental has 2 world champions, namely, WBO minimumweight titlist Merlito ?Tiger? Sabillo and WBO lightweight Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes; WBO Asia Pacific Superflyweight champion Arthur ?El Matador? Villanueva and WBO-OPBF Superflyweight champion Genesis ?Azukal? Servania.
