CHICAGO -- Was the sushi that good? Or, was the wasabi extra spicy that tempers flared?

Former Bulls great Scottie Pippen was reported to be involved in a tussle at a parking lot of a high-end restaurant last Saturday night in affluent Malibu, a beach community populated by California's rich and famous.

But after speaking to police on Monday to shed light on the scrum near the valet stand at Nobu Malibu, the Los Angeles county sheriff's office released Pippen without filing charges against the basketball Hall-of-Famer and six-time NBA champion.

"Mr. Pippen will not be arrested, there's more here than meets the eye," Steve Whitmore, a spokesman for the L.A. county sheriff's office, told the Chicago Tribune. "He came in to be interviewed, he's been very cooperative," Whitmore added.

"That argument led to an altercation," Whitmore explained. Although the scuffle left Pippen unhurt, one man with head injuries was taken to a hospital where he was treated and released. Employees at Nobu did nor have any information about the incident.

The 6-foot-8, 228-pound Pippen played 17 years in the NBA, where he averaged 16.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists in 1,178 regular season games. A 7-time All-Star, Pippen helped Michael Jordan and the Bulls capture the Larry O'Brien six time, a pair of 3-peats from 1991 to 1993 and 1996 to 1998.

The 47-year old Pippen currently works as special adviser to Bulls president and CEO Michael Reinsdorf. (Homer D. Sayson)
