MANILA (PNA) -- Three days after he heaping praises on Gilas Pilipinas for it achieved the gains the Nationals from their two-week training stint in Lithuania, head coach Chot Reyes expressed dismay in the first practice cays Friday since they set foot on Philippine soil early this week.

?It?s the worst f?ing practice we had and you can quote me on that,? Reyes bewailed after presiding over a two-hour workout held at the Ynares Sports Center in Pasig City Friday.

?Maybe they?re (the Nationals) still travel-weary and suffering from a long layoff, but that?s not an excuse,? Reyes told the Journal in an interview after the practice session ?What they showed today is only 50 percent of what I saw when we left Lithuania. This is a very bad change.?

?Only 39 days left and I saw very bad change. We should increase the frequency of our training,? he said adding that he has scheduled a daily training regimen besides trying to provide the boys quality games needed in their preparations for the 27th FIBA-Asia world qualifying tournament the county is hosting Aug. 1-11.

?Tomorrow (Saturday) we?ll be staying here (Ynares) on Monday, we?ll be at Araneta,? he said. ?Nakakuha na rin ako ng oras sa MOA (Mall of Asia Arena, main site of the FIBA-Asia championship) so magpapa-ikot-ikot kami sa mga training venues na available.

Reyes said he?s not losing hope of still playing tune up games in Australia and New Zealand in lieu of the Jones Cup where their invitation to defend the title won last year was withdrawn by the organizing committee.

Talk ?N Talk coach Norman Black, one of Reyes? assistants, said to makeup for the Jones Cup, the Samahang Basketbol Ng Pilipinas is sending him to Taipei to scout FIBA-Asia member teams competing in that prestigious annual tournament.

?I will go to Taipei to scout on our opponents in FIBA-Asia,? Black said in a separate interview also Friday night, adding he will be flying to the Taiwanese capital July 5 and will be back July 12.

Reyes? boys played lackluster game all throughout the two-hour half-court skirmishes that saw members of the Gilas cadet squad ? Garvo Lanete, Kevin Alas and Jake Pascual and regular member Greg Slaughter joining he session.

Except for Rain Or Shine?s Gabe Norwood, who went to the United States to may his long-time girlfriend, all those who joined the Lithuanian trip, where the team also played seven tune up games, winning five, were present in Friday?s session.

Naturalized center Marcus Douthit, San Mig Coffee?s Marc Pingris and bulky Beau Belga, also of the Elasto Painters, admitted that the Nationals are still suffering from jet lag.

?We?re still adjusting on a different time zone after Lithuania. It?s a seven-hour time difference and we?re still feeling the jet lag, so that?s expected,? said Douthit. ?But I?m sure we will get better in the next few practices.?

To which Pingris and Belga agreed. Pingris also his daily morning weight training also bothered him.
