Cebuano Eriberto 'Yukka' Gejon has been offered a fight with International Boxing Federation (IBF) minimumweight champion Muhammad Rachman sometime in the first quarter of this year as a mandatory challenger to the Indonesian world champ.
Gejon's manager, however, expressed reservation in pitting his boy against Rachman, saying that there is not much money in case Gejon wins the IBF title, where his boy would most likely defend in the United States.
Rex 'Wakee' Salud, nevertheless, accepted the offer from IBF championship chairman Lindsey Tucker, and in an email, asked for the terms and conditions of the proposed bout.
Should the Gejon-Rachman negotiation fall through, the plan is to offer the chance to the next highest contender which will be decided upon by the IBF based on its latest rankings.
Rachman had successfully defended his IBF title with a seventh-round stoppage of Filipino Benjie Sorolla in Jakarta, Indonesia in a choice title defense promoted by Indonesian multi-millionaire Soeryo Goeritno.
Rachman's manager, however, have told the media that they would ask the IBF to hold an elimination bout between the top challengers to determine his next opponent, just like what he did in fighting in an elimination before going up for the IBF title.
Martinez Dos Santos, who manages Rachman, also said that their champ is willing to engage WBO champion Ivan Calderon in a unification battle even in Puerto Rico 'as long as the money is right.'
