PACQUIAO'S DETRACTORS ARE AT IT AGAIN

MANILA (PNA) -- Detractors of Sarangani Congressman and eight-division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao are at it again.

Six months before the 34-year-old Filipino ring idol?s comeback fight against Brandon Rios following his twin defeats last year, Pacquiao?s enemies, this early, have already concocted a pair of issues that look, like in his previous fights, designed to distract him in his coming preparations.

Days after earning his second term as his province?s representative to the Lower House unopposed, a barangay official accused the Pacman of attacking him during a house-to-house campaign leading to last May 13 midterm elections.

Right after the political exercise that also saw his beauteous wife Jinkee voted as vice-governor of the province, it was reported that about 50 poll watchers of defeated congressional aspirant in General Santos City, Pacquiao?s brother Rogelio, stormed to his mansion demanding payment for their services.

Pacquiao himself denied the mauling incident, which, reports also had it that the former World Boxing Organization welterweight champion was detained inside the barangay Hall as a result.

Pacquiao, at the same time, acted with dispatch in addressing the alleged non-payment of poll watchers during the last political exercise.

Lately, Pacquio was reported to have released the amount intended for the pool watchers as he vowed to investigate further the matter.

Pacquiao is not new to facing issues that always cropped up before a fight and although the Filipino boxing treasure doesn?t seem to be bothered about them, members of Team Pacquiao couldn?t but notice the regularity of their coming.

?Hindi naman pinapansin ni Manny ang mga isyung yan. Kaya lang para namang lagi na lang kung may darating na laban nahuhukay (Manny actually doesn?t mind them although he has also noted them coming every time he has a fight coming),? the Pacman?s childhood buddy and assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez once observed.

Fernandez is right. Why is it that every time he fights, issues against him come up? There was, for instance the tax evasion charges which hounded him several years back before he beat Marco Antonio Barrera.

There was also this infidelity scandal that came out while he was preparing for his demolition of Antonio Margarito three years ago. Then the report of his bearing a child with another woman outside of Jinkee prior to his third fight with Juan Manuel Marquez.

There, too, was the tax evasion charges revisited months before losing to undefeated American welterweight last year where the government itself, the Bureau of Internal Revenue head herself, saying that Pacquiao might be put in jail.

?This is crab mentality in the highest degree," then San Juan City Congressman and now Senator-elect JV Ejercito cried out loud then in defense of his lawmaker-colleague at the height of the tax evasion charges thrown Pacquiao?s way.

?Gawa yan ng mga taong walang magawa kundi i-distract si Manny sa kanyang preparasyon sa darating na laban (?These are the making of people out to distract Manny in his preparations for a coming fight),? long-time friend Wakee Salud said.

?Crab mentality among us Filipinos, envy for what Manny had done to himself, the country and the Filipino,? Salud said. ?Politics na rin kasi nga pulitiko na si Manny and as such maraming natutulungan.?

?His political enemies are scared that he really might aspire for higher positions than just being a congressman,? he said.
