2013 ASIAN TRIATHLON IN ZAMBALES

MANILA (PNA) -- Some 1,000 swimmers, bikers and runner, including several Asian world-ranking campaigners will see action in the 2013 Asian Triathlon Championships the country is hosting April 27-29 at the international standard Subic Bay courses in Zambales.

Japanese Olympians Hirokatsu Tayama and Mariko Adachi, ranked 27th and 29th in the world are among those who have confirmed participation in the prestigious gathering of the finest in athletes in open sea swimming, biking and running the Philippines is hosting for the third time in 16 years.

Yuka Sato, ranked 33rd in the world, Yuichi Hosoda, 49th, Ryosuki Yamamoto, 67 and Faiquan Adachi, also assured the host of their participation, Triathlon Association of the Philippines vice president vice president Red Dumuk disclosed yesterday, adding that all in the list saw action in the London Olympic Games last year.

?The presence of these Olympians and world-ranking triathletes makes this year?s event one of the most prestigious in terms of quality participation,? Dumuk said.

?Of the total number of competitors so far registered, 188 will be competing in the elite division,? Dumuk disclosed during yesterday?s SCOOP Sa Kamayan session at the Kamayan Restaurant-Padre Faura. A clearance obtained by from International Triathlon Union-designate technical delegate Qin Jianqui recently officially gave TRAP the go signal to stage the three-day event, Dumuk said.

?Yes, TRAP president Tom Carrasco has instructed me the good news that we are pushing trough with the event after receiving clearance from ITU technical delegate to do so,? Dumuk said during the forum, sponsored by AKTV and FILA.

Qin?s favorable action, according to Dumuk, was based on the report submitted to him by Filipino assistant technical delegate Fabnie David, who for months has been working with Carrasco and TRAP executive director Ricky Reyes to ensure that preparations are going on smoothly in terms of the worthiness of the venue ?Of course, the fact that the 1997 championship was adjudged the best ever organized championship then, helped in ITU?s favorable action,? Dumuk told his audience. ?We last hosted the championship in 2004 and although it was similarly successful, the 1997 thing became the barometer of the succeeding meets.?

Competition, turns to high-gear right in the opening day when hostilities in the elite category for men and women has been scheduled. Also scheduled on the sae day are the under-23 level and the Youth Olympic Games aspirants.

?Day 2 is confined to age-group competitions, whole the final day will be for the differently able athletes,? Dumuk bared.

?So far, 22 countries have officially signified their participation and whether this number will increase will be known this last week of registration,? Dumuk said.
