MANILA (PNA) - Exactly a week before Brian Viloria defends his World Boxing Organization and World Boxing Association flyweight crowns, the Filipino-American expressed confidence to remain the unified 112-pound kingpin when the smoke of battle clears in his 12-round confrontation with Mexican challenger Juan ?El ?Gallo? Estrada on April 6 at the posh Venetian Macao Resort Hotel.
?I?m ready,? Viloria, known as ?Hawaiian Punch? owing to the place where he grew up, pronounced himself to be as quoted by Filipino trainer Marvin Somodio following a two-hour workout Maundy Thursday, three days after Team Viloria set foot in China?s gambling haven from Los Angeles.
?Our training camp at Wild Card in L.A, was great and I feel great ending my training here,? Viloria, who traces his root in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, said.
Viloria, American chief trainer Freddie Roach, trusted aide Somodio and sparring mates, two-time Chinese Olympic gold medalist Zou Shiming and Mexican Ricardo Rodriguez, arrived in Macau Monday after spending two months and-a-half at the Hollywood sweat shop.
Viloria actually started his pro career at the Roach-owned Wild Card following his Olympic stint in 2000 winning his first world title.
Somodio said the champ, Shiming and Rodriguez have been working out since the L.A. camp?s opening middle of January. ?Shiming and Rodriguez had provided Brian from 8 to 10 rounds of skirmishes a week before we came to Macau at tingin namin ni coach Freddie maganda ang resulta ng camp.?
?Starting Monday, the frequency of sparring as well as roadwork will be lessened until probably Wednesday or Thursday,? Somodio disclosed.
?Our last week here will be confined to reviewing what we?ve gained the past three months or so of camp. Checking what we still lack and correcting them.
?Before we fly to Macau, maganda na ang kondisyon ni Brian. Ganun din nang dumating kami dito. Masaya siya at tingin ko nag?enjoy siya,? Somodio assessed.
?His timing is great. Power? Well, hindi naman nawawala yun, matter of recovering lang what was lost sa mahabang layoff. And I think we?ve already done that,? he assured. Ang speed at stamina100 percent na. At higit sa lahat, nasa tamang timbang na si Brian.?
?He?s ready to rumble na kumbaga comes April 6,? Somodio, who, most-likely, will be at Viloria?s corner at fight night like when the ?Hawaiian Punch? knocked out Herman Marquez last November to unify the WBO and WBA fly titles, projected.
On the same November night, Estrada lost via decision to undefeated WBA light-fly champion Roman ?Chocolatito? Gonzales for his only second defeat in 24 pro-fights with one technical knockout win.
Record-wise, Viloria looks to have the edge with his 32-3 win-loss slate with 19 KOs.
