CEBU CITY--There were only cheers and a hope of doing it again next year as the WBO 'Kids Kontra Drugs' Baseball Tournament wrapped up over the weekend at the Labangon Elementary School here.
Organizer Michael Lopez handed out cash prizes to the winning teams assisted by American Andre Breeding.
"The team played until sundown. There was a good turnout of support from the local fans who enjoyed watching little league baseball and girls softball," said Lopez in an interview with this writer.
WBO Asia Pacific chairman Leon Panoncillo, who initiated this event with the support of WBO president Francisco 'Paco' Valcarcel, indicated that activities like this are essential to keep kids away from the menace of drugs and other nefarious activities that destroy their future.
"This is our way of showing to the world that boxing is not just about crowning champions, but also about showing kids the right way. That an early exposure to sports and hard work will bring them good life in the future," Panoncillo said.
