TAMPA, FLORIDA--In a major development, SGG Promotions of Sammy 'Don King' Gello-ani has beaten Bob Arum's Top Rank to the punch in a purse bidding for the Z Gorres-Fernando Montiel held in Puerto Rico just a few minutes ago.
SGG, represented by the world's best matchmaker and purse bid genius Sampson Lewkowicz, submitted the winning bid of $126,000, edging out Top Rank's bid of $125,500 in what was described as a 'photo finish' bidding.
"This is a major victory for Philippine boxing. I'm very elated to hear of this news," said Filipino promoter Sammy Gello-ani, who is in Florida to attend to his other protege Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista who is fighting on Dec. 2 underneath the Winky Wright-Ike Quartey showdown.
In the Sultan Ibragimov-Shannon Briggs purse bid, Sampson Lewkowicz won the bidding after putting up $2,500,001, while Don King Promotions came in second with a bid of $1,5001,000.
The Gorres-Montiel WBO superfly showdown is being penciled to take place sometime in January in Cebu, Philippines.
More to come...
