The annual tradition of the ALA Promotions to stage a Sinulog fight card will continue this year to add glitter to the festivities of the Holy Child Senior Santo Ni?o. The fight will be bannered by the ten-round main event featuring ?Prince? Albert Pagara against Jilo Merlin today at the Gaisano Country Mall.

The boxing promotion called ?ALA-Cobra Tunay na Lakas Boxing,? which will be made free to the public, was originally scheduled at the IT Park in Barangay Lahug but was ultimately transferred to the Country Mall at Banilad. The sinulog boxing offering will have seven supporting bouts as undercards.

Pagara has an immaculate pro record of 14-0-0 with 10 KOs. He crushed Thai Tawanrung Eausampan in two rounds at the Maasin City Gym last November 15. The thousands of spectators watched how ?Prince? demolished the previously unbeaten former muay thai fighter by a solid uppercut causing damage to the jaw of the visiting Thailander.

Other opponents he defeated last year were Marvin Tampus by unanimous decision, Alvin Makiling by unanimous decision, and Thai Phupha Por Nobnom by 2nd round TKO. He also headed last year?s Sinulog Festival boxing card and conquered Lowie Bantigue by 3rd round TKO.

Journeyman Merlin has a 12-14-2 slate with 2 KOs and is from San Francisco, Agusan del Sur. Merlin has fought but lost to renowned Thai boxers Pungluang Sor Singyu, Sod Kokietgym and Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym in Thailand.

Pagara is now rated number 8 Orient Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) superflyweight contender behind champion Arthur Villanueva of the Philippines. He is also rated number 3 in the Philippines by the Games and Amusements Board behind champion Demecillo Marco Singwangcha.

All odds are in favor of the 18-year-old rising star of ALA Gym. But Pagara should not be over-confident because Merlin has fought widely internationally in Japan, Thailand and Indonesia. This is part of the program of exposure the Aldeguer family is implementing for the young boxing sensation.

ALA Promotions is making it a step by step journey to stardom for this young boxer from Lib-og, Maasin City. Next in line could be a Philippine-GAB title fight or a regional championship depending on Pagara?s performance today and in his next fight.

The main supporting bout will be the 10 round non-title match between Philippine junior flyweight champion Jerson Mancio of the ALA Gym and Gerpaul ?Captain Hook? Valero of the Flores Boxing Gym of Mandaue City.

Other bouts will feature Jimmy Paypa who will face veteran Marvin Tampus for ten rounds, Reymund Tabogon who will encounter Abel Gayhun in an 8 rounder, Bryan Lobitania who will square off with Jamjam Ungon in 4 rounds, Rolando Servania who will debut against Joyjoy Formenter in a 4 rounder. Ivor Lastrilla will fight Freddie Bisande for 4 rounds while Richard Barrios will box with Rolando Sanchez for 4 rounds.
