FIL-AMS STILL NOT OVER THE STING OF PACMAN'S LOSS

MANILA(PNA via PCSO) - Nearly two weeks after the nation?s idol Manny Pacquiao suffered a sixth round knockout loss to long-time nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez, United States-based Filipinos still feel the pain brought about by the unexpected blow to their pride.
This, despite a soothing relief provided by World Boxing Organization super-bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire Jr.?s third round devastation of Marquez? countryman Jorge Arce exactly a week following the Pacman?s defeat.
?Indeed, we Filipinos here in America must take pride and rejoice over Nonito?s triumph over Arce which came as sort of consolation to Manny?s defeat,? businessman-sportsman Don Veridiano told People?s Journal during the awards ceremony of the Jubilee Golf Club of San Francisco held a day after
Donaire?s victory at the Patio Filipino Restaurant in that California City.
?That doesn?t, however, erase the ignominy of seeing our Pambansang Kamao lying face down in what could be his worst defeat in his career,? Veridiano said by way of summing up the Filipinos? sentiments. ?That was a very painful blow which I think Manny doesn?t deserve, considering the immeasurable honors he has gifted our country and us as Filipinos.?
?But still, the pains and the heartaches brought about by Manny?s surprising loss remain,? added Jubilee Golf Club outgoing president and insurance executive Charlie Santos. ?May be because we?re already used to seeing Manny beating all his previous opponents kaya medyo nabigla at nasaktan kami na makitang siya naman ang natalo.?
?We Filipinos all over the world consider Manny as the face of our nation. He is a national hero, in fact. Wherever we go, kapag nalaman ng ibang tao na Pilipino tayo, ma-a-identify agad tayo sa Pilipinas. So whoever gives us pride in honor in whatever capacity and in whatever calling, whether as athletes, musicians or other professions, everybody acknowledge our deeds,? Patio Filipino managing partner Johann Yuson, for his part quipped.
?Watching the fight personally as guest of MGM, I, and I?m sure every Filipino abroad was shocked and saddened by Manny?s defeat,? Jubilee incoming president Joe Albero remarked. ?And you cannot blame us for entertaining such feeling. Napakasakit talaga hindi lamang kay Manny but to our country and the Filipinos as well.?
For Filipino residents in Las Vegas and the State of Nevada, the pain of the eight-division world champion?s setback was doubly felt simply because, as one of them related, they are at the forefront of the ridicule thrown in their direction right after the fight.
?Kami kasi ang naiiwan pagkatapos ng lahat ng laban ni Pacquiao dito sa Las Vegas kaya kami rin ang tampulan ng lahat ng tukso at panlalait na ibinabato ng mga taga-rito, lalo na yung mga kababayan ng mga nakakalaban ni Manny, Mexicans, for example,? the guy said.
Another Filipino who came all the way from North Carolina to watch the fight said he and all members of his family s well as most of Filipino residents in his place always make it a point to were Paquiao t-shirts and other apparels identified to the former pound-for-pound king as early as a month before the Pacquiao-Marquez fourth instalment.
?So, imagine mo na lang ang kantyaw na inabot namin pag-uwi namin sa North Carolina after the fight,? the man, who requested anonymity, said. ?Sobra na ng saki dahil sa pagkatalo ni Manny, nadoble pa dahil sa kantyaw.?
Others, Marcelino de Guia, a government pensioner also of San Francisco, took Pacquiao?s loss though with a grain of salt.
?Natalo man si Manny, pinakita niya sa buong mundo kung anong tapang mayroon ang mga Pilipino. Tinitiyak ko na makakabalik siya at pagdating nang panahong yun, babawi siya at itatayo na naman niya ng bandilang Pilipino.?
