LAS VEGAS (PNA via PCSO) ? The fourth act of the Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez nine-year rivalry will be fought Sunday in Manila before a sell-out crowd at the 16,000-seat at the MGM Grand Arena.
And chances are that the closed circuit seats might be sold out, too, according to Top Rank?s Bob Arum. The Hall of Fame promoter announced Friday that the MGM Grand Garden Arena?s 16,000-plus seats have completely sold out, producing a live gate in excess of $10.5 million.
?Manny and Juan Manuel may have unfinished business in the ring, but as far as the live box office, it?s business as usual ? another sellout,? Arum, who called on boxing fans in Las Vegas to go to their favorite MGM Resort International property to purchase their closed-circuit seats because ?the projections are looking like a sell out, too.?
Pacquiao vs. M?rquez 4 will be available via closed circuit at the following MGM Resorts International Las Vegas properties: ARIA, Mandalay Bay, The Mirage, Monte Carlo, New York-New York and Circus Circus. Tickets are priced at $50, not including applicable service charges. All seats will be general admission and will be available at each individual property?s box office.
Top Rank president Todd duBoef, on the other hand, said that Pacquiao stands to make $30 million if the fight does a brisk business. Pacquiao?s guarantee on the Nevada Athletic Commission is $8.595 million, while Marquez will earn a guarantee of $ million, announced NAC executive director Keith Kizer, who added that pay per-view fighters like Pacquiao and Marquez can earn much more than their guarantees.
The Pacman is expected to get the chunk from his upside on HBO Pay-per-View sales which is expected to exceed $1 million and equal the $1.5 million buys generated from the two fighters third encounter last year. duBoef said adding the foreign television money could junk Pacquiao?s earning to over $ 25 million.
The Top Rank big boss said closed circuit locations that show the bout are up from the 2011 fight between the two protagonists continuing whsat he said was a trend in Pacquiao fights. He said despite the Filipino?s controversial loss to Timothy Bradley last June, interest in Pacquiao doesn?t seem to have waned.
?
We?re getting more of the bars and restaurants, the chains, the hooters, the Bufffalo Wings, places like that, buying the fight,? duBoef said. ?If Pacquiao?s popularity is decreasing , I am not seeing it.?
Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KOs), of the Philippines, and M?rquez (54-6-1, 39 KOs), of M?xico, who have won world titles in 12 weight divisions between them, will go mano a mano and toe-to-toe in a 12-round welterweight battle.
Meanwhile, a day before the fight, Pacquiao continued leading the betting odds in both whether the fight will go the full 12 rounds or will end in stoppage.
Marquez who started enjoying a plus 300 on line betting was only plus 260 last Friday. Meaning a bet of $100 for the Mexican will pay $260. Pacquiao, who started at minus 400 was reduced to minus 370, meaning a bet of $370 will only pay $100. The proposition whether to go full 11 rounds fell to minus 220 from minus 255 as of Friday. Those who would bet the fight won?t go twelve full rounds dropped slightly to plus 180 from the opening line plus 185.
