Prince Albert Pagara has nowhere to go but up. He has proven his mettle by stopping his third foreign opponent Thai Tawanrung Eausampan in Maasin City last November 15 at the Maasin City Gym teeming with thousands of spectators eager to see Maasin Pride IV. The knockout was a punishing uppercut to the jaw which caused damage to the face of the Thai.

An international champion in the making, ALA Promotions is making it a step by step journey to stardom for this 18-year-old fighter from Lib-og, Maasin City. Games and Amusements Board rated him number one in the superflyweight division behind champion Demecillo Marco Singwangcha.

But in the latest tussle, he is now fitted to the bantamweight division. The Philippine champion is Monico Laurente. With the latest win against the Thai, Pagara could surge to number one in the November GAB ratings in the bantamweight division. Laurente won the vacant GAB Philippine title over Rey Las Pinas last March 25. The champion from Palompon, Leyte lost to Tomoki Kameda in Kagawa, Japan by unanimous decision last August 19 in a non-title bout.

The latest Pagara victory over Eausampan could also bolster his Orient Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) rating. He is now rated number eleven in the superflyweight category with Singwangcha as the number one contender and the title vacant in the PBF October ratings. Laurente is number five OPBF contender in the bantamweight division.

During the Maasin Pride IV official weigh-in and press conference, Pagara was asked by media what?s next after the fight with the Thai, is he going to follow the footsteps of his brother Jason for an international title. ?Prince? answered it?s all up to his promoter Antonio L. Aldeguer.

But I answered back it is proper for him to aim first for the Philippine title before gunning for an international championship. Anyway he is still very young at his age and there is no need to be in a hurry. He has the ability and the skills but it should be honed up to the fullest extent before we venture to fights against seasoned opponents.

After the Maasin Pride IV fight, Aldeguer praised the thousands of overflowing spectators which occupied every vacant space of the city gym, several others were standing just to get a glimpse of the local boxing hero in action. I promised him to improve the accommodation of visiting boxers, especially those coming from Thailand and Japan.

Jason Pagara meanwhile got a well deserved accolade from the city government of Maasin, a glass plaque with his face emblazoned on it. He brought his belt and showed it to the thousands of adoring fans welcoming the WBO international light-welterweight champion.

It was a reunion of the Pagara family with father Reynaldo and mother Sabrina and the Pagara siblings given special ringside seats. And their kababayans were also very elated.
