GOLDEN BOY JUSTIFIES JACA MOVE

Golden Boy Promotions through its vice president and international promoter Eric Gomez revealed a few hours ago it has possession of some documents that would justify they have not done anything wrong in their move of fetching controversial boxer Jimrex Jaca to the United States for a major fight.

The original copy of such documents were personally handed over to Gomez by Jaca and his trainer Robert Bubuli, Jr. upon their arrival to the United States last week.

Gomez furnished to The Freeman via e-mail a copy of Cebuano promoter Rex "Wakee" Salud's letter dated October 30, 2006, requesting GAB chairman Eric Buhain through boxing division chief Nasser Cruz to grant a "Letter of Authorization" for his boxer Jaca, who has a scheduled 12-round match for the WBO featherweight championship against Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM
Grand in Las Vegas on November 25, 2006.

Salud further stated in his letter that Jaca will be accompanied by his trainer Robert Bubuli, Jr. In response, the GAB issued a certification on October 31, 2006 duly signed by GAB Cebu Extension Office head Celso Miranda, certifying Jaca is a
licensed GAB boxer and will be in Las Vegas on November 25 for the Marquez fight.

As indicated in his letter, Salud already knew beforehand that the Jaca-Marquez bout is going to push through as rescheduled on November 25. It was originally set last October 21 but was scrapped because of Jaca's failure to get his US visa due to
some mysterious reasons.

For whatever reason, Salud drastically changed his plan as he made arrangements with Top Tank Inc. to discard one fight just to accommodate Jaca in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Erik Morales rubbermatch on November 18 at the Thomas and Mack
Center in Las Vegas for a measly purse of US$7,500.

That pales in comparison to the hefty US$50,000 paycheck offered by Golden Boy Promotions to Jaca in the Marquez title showdown slated on November 25 at the Dodge Arena in Hidaldo, Texas.

A few days ago, Jaca and Bubuli slipped out of the country without the consent of Salud to honor their contract with Golden Boy Promotions to fight Marquez.

Salud's disappoinment was aggravated when he learned that Jaca inked a three-fight contract with GBP without his blessings.

Salud claimed it is a clear infringement of his existing deal with Jaca that has yet to expire in 2009, prompting him to lodge a complaint before the GAB for his estranged boxer to be dealt with accordingly within the bounds of law.

For its part, Golden Boy Promotions, which strives to become the leading boxing promotional company through integrity,
honesty, hard work and determination, countered its move was done in good faith and the pertinent papers it obtained could prove it has not committed any wrongdoing as far as the Jaca issue is concerned.
