After all the back and forth, a letter from boxing manager Rex 'Wakee' Salud to Games and Amusements Board Chairman Eric Buhain reveals that the camp of Filipino boxer Jimrex Jaca had prior knowledge that the November 25 fight was going to push through, and that there was an initial plan by Salud to honor a commitment for the fight with Juan Manuel Marquez to materialize.
The letter, which has been furnished to the media moments ago, shows that Golden Boy Promotions acted in good faith and in all transparency when it decided to issue a visa on Jaca and trainer Robert 'Jun' Bubuli, and eventually brought them to the United States last week to continue training for the Marquez battle.
Jaca, who will be paid $50,000 for the fight will challenge Marquez for the WBO interim featherweight title on November 25 at the Dodge Arena in Hidalgo, Texas. The winner will also become the regular champion as WBO champ Scott Harrison will most likely be stripped of the title as he is currently serving time in Spain.
Salud had wanted to put Jaca in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Erik Morales rubbermatch on November 18 for a non-title bout with a purse of only $7,500.
Salud, in his letter to Buhain coursed through boxing division chief Nasser Cruz dated October 30, 2006 (9 days after the cancellation of the Oct. 21 original schedule) stated: "I would like to request a Letter of Authorization for boxer Jemuel Divino, ring name JIMREX JACA who has a schedule, Twelve (12) rounds for a WBO Featherweight championship fight against JUAN MANUEL MARQUEZ at MGM Grand Las Vegas on Nov. 25, 2006. The said boxer will be accompanied by Mr. Robert Bubuli Jr his boxing trainer."
Also attached was a certification from GAB-7 chief Celso Miranda issued October 31, 2006, certifying that Jaca is a GAB licensed boxer whose license will expire on December 31, 2006.
The paper trail clearly indicates that there was prior knowledge on the part of Salud that the November 25 fight was going to materialize, but for unknown reasons, changed his mind and wanted to put his ward in GBP rival Bob Arum's card.
Salud has tapped topnotch lawyer Magnificus Canete to represent him in his case against Jaca, where a letter will be submitted to the GAB to ask the agency to make representation with the Texas Boxing Commission to restrain Jaca from fighting Marquez, or if not, withhold his purse for the fight.
Meanwhile, Salud announced that the November 18 Pacquiao-Morales rubbermatch will be beamed live on big venues in the Philippines, for a fee of only P200 and P100 in such venues as Cebu Coliseum, Mandaue Sports Complex, Bacolod City, and possibly Tagbilaran and Ozamiz City.
Salud said that his venture is much cheaper compared to the fees being charged by SM Cinemas, where tickets are pegged at P500 and P400.
