Filipino promoter Samson Gello-ani announced to the media that talented Filipino southpaw, the WBO no. 1 superfly Z 'The Dream' Gorres and his team are asking the WBO to hold a purse bidding for the Gorres-Fernando Montiel title fight to happen soonest.
The bout is originally penciled for December 9 by Golden Boy Promotions, which promotes the two fighters, but GBP vice-president Eric Gomez informed Gello-ani that so far, there has been no clear intent from Montiel to sign up for that said mandatory title defense.
"Eric Gomez of Golden Boy Promotions said that the camp of Fernando Montiel refused to accept the offer of GBP for the title defense of Montiel against the mandatory challenger, Z Gorres," said the well-loved Cebu sportsman Antonio L. Aldeguer, Gorre's chief handler.
Also in attendance at the press conference were Gorres and his manager Michael Aldeguer, Christine Aldeguer, and lady promoter Clarice Catipay.
A formal letter is now on its way to WBO President Francisco 'Paco' Valcarcel in Puerto Rico, which asks the highly-respected boxing organization to declare a purse bidding.
Well-known international matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz, according to Team Gorres, will represent them at the purse-bidding.
If Gorres' team wins the purse bidding, the plan is to bring the fight to the Philippines sometime in January where a mammoth crowd is expected to witness the fight.
Gello-ani stressed that GBP big boss Oscar De la Hoya, who is well-loved in the Philippines, will be invited to grace that affair.
However, if Montiel decides to vacate the title, Gorres said he is also ready to face no. 2 Pramuansak Phosuwan of Thailand.
More to come...
