World Boxing Council no. 3 strawweight Rodel Mayol is poised to sign up with promoter Bob Arum's Top Rank, as the Filipino bids to get higher-profile fights in the United States.
In an exclusive interview yesterday, Mayol said that he already received a copy of the promotional contract from Arum, which was sent to him by his manager Yasuo Matsuoka of Tokyo, Japan.
Mayol (23-1, 18 KO's) did not divulge the specifics of the contract, although he branded it as 'fair' and was looking forward to fighting under his new promotional company.
The hard-hitting Mayol, however, was clearly salivating over the prospect of fighting WBC light-flyweight champ Omar Nino of Mexico, WBA 108-lb champ Koki Kameda of Japan or feather-fisted WBO minimumweight champ Ivan Calderon.
Mayol, who was earlier tapped to see action underneath the Manny Pacquiao-Erik Morales rubbermatch but declined due to time constraints, is currently in the country spending time with his family following his impressive showing in Japan recently where he stopped Masatsugu Okada in the first round last September.
