PINOY BOXERS FACE JAPANESE AND INDONESIAN FOES IN ?BAKBAKAN SA ELORDE?

MANILA (PNA) -- Reigning World Boxing Council international bantamweight champion Dennis Tubieron battles Japanese challenger Hiroki Shiino in defense of his 118-pound title, while two other compatriots who own WBC youth intercontinental crowns will try to keep their plums headlining the ?Bakbakan Sa Elorde? boxing card scheduled September 8 at the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque City.

Also staking their crowns in the slambang affair, promoted by the Elorde International Productions are WBC youth intercontinental belt-owner Jaderes Padua who faces Indonesian James Mokoginta and WBC youth intercontinental super-flyweight titlist Gabriel Altarejos who is meeting the challenge of Filipino title pretender Weljan Ugbaniel.

The Tubieron-Shiino sowdown is for 12 rounds, while the Padua-Mokoginta and the Altarejos-Ugbaniel encounters are for 10 rounds.

Also seeIng action for 12 rounds is Renan Trongco who will swap punches with Japanese Ryu Onigashima for the vacant WBC international light-flyweight championship.

All four Filipinos, should they win, will be given a chance for a crack each of the world championships in their respective divisions, according to coach Archer Villamor during Friday?s SCOOP Sa Kamayan weekly session at the Kamayan Restaurant-Padre Faura.

Two other youth intercontinental championship hopefuls ? Vergel Nebran and Joe Maxian, according to Villamor during the session, sponsored by Powerade, AKTV and FILA ? will be fighting a pair of still to be named opponents to spice up the card.

Trongco and Tubieron, who both hail from Puerto Princesa, Padua, a Bicolano from Guinobatan, Albay, and Altarejos of Paranaque City, declared themselves ready this early, a month before the showdown to do battle and take a step closer to realizing their dreams of following in the footstep of their more illustrious countryman, eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao.

?Handang-handa na kaming laha, ngayon pa lang na lumaban ay magbigay ng karangalan sa ating bansa,?exclaimed Tubieron, in a statement shared by his three other peers.
