
2012 OLYMPICS: USA SENDS MOST NUMBER OF BOXERS

The United States will be sending the most number of boxers to the 2012 London Olympics. Team USA will field nine male and three female boxers for a total of twelve fighters. Only the men?s light-flyweight category escapes from the grasp of the Americans, for they do not have a qualified entry in the smallest weight division.
Next in the most number of boxers with 11 each are Australia (10 males, 1 female) and Kazakhstan (9 males, 2 females) with 11 boxers each. Australia dominated the Oceania Olympic Qualifying Event by winning all ten weight categories for men while only one woman boxer qualified in the 2012 World Women?s Championships.
The countries which have the third most number of boxing participants with 10 entries are Brazil (7 males, 3 females), host Great Britain (7 males, 3 females), and Russia (7 males, 3 females).
China is fourth with 9 boxers (6 males, 3 females). Five countries are at fifth place with 8 boxers each and they are Algeria (8 males), Azerbaijan (7 males, 1 female), Cuba (8 males), India (7 males, 1 female), and Morocco (7males, 1 female).
Ecuador (7 males), Italy (7 males), Ukraine (7 males) place sixth. Ireland (5 males, 1 female), Turkey (6 males), Uzbekistan (6 males) are in seventh place.
Egypt (5 males), France (5 males), Puerto Rico (5 males), and Tunisia (4 males, 1 female) follows at eighth place.
Bulgaria (3 males, 1 females), Germany (4 males), Ghana (4 males), Iran (4 males), Japan (4 males), Mongolia (4 males), and Tajikistan (3 males, 1 female) are at ninth place.
At tenth place with 3 boxers each are Belarus (3 males), Canada (2 males, 1 female), Colombia (3 males), Dominican Republic (3 males), Hungary (3 males), Nigeria (2 males, 1 female), Sweden (2 males, 1 females), Thailand (3 males), and Venezuela (2 males, 1 female).
Eleventh place goes to the following nations with 2 boxers each, namely, Argentina (2 males), Gabon (2 males), Kenya (1 male, 1 female), Lithuania (2 males), Mauritius (2 males), Mexico (2 males), Namibia (2 males), New Zealand (1 male, 1 female), North Korea (1 male, 1 female), Romania (1 male, 1 female), South Africa (2 males), South Korea (2 males), Spain (2 males), and Turkmenistan (2 males).
The Philippines is last among countries with boxing entries with lone entry Mark Anthony Barriga. Tied with Philippines at twelfth place all with one male boxer each are Afghanistan, Angola, Armenia, Benin, Botswana, Czech Republic, Denmark, Congo, Georgia, Honduras, Iraq, Jordan, Moldova, Montenegro, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Niger, Panama, Poland, Serbia, Seychelles, Syria, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago and Zambia.
A total of 250 male boxers and 36 female boxers will vie for 13 gold medals. Boxing competition will be fought at the ExCel Exhibition Centre in London from July 28 to August 12, 2012.
