Filipino Juanito Rubillar took the vacant OPBF light-flyweight title with a seventh-round technical knockout win over Indonesia's Ifran Ogah a few minutes ago in Trece Martirez City in Cavite.
The official time was 1:08 of the 7th round, when the ringside physician called a halt to the fight due to a big cut over the right eyebrow suffered by Ogah following a legit punch by Rubillar.
"The cut was so severe it had to be sewn up," said a ringsider who saw the fight.
"Rubillar outclassed Ogah," said one of the fight judges, Atty. Epie Almeda, in a message to this writer.
The win snapped a five-year title drought for Rubillar, which started in October 2001 with a heart-breaking loss to Jorge Arce for the WBC light-flyweight crown.
Rubillar again lost to Arce in 2004 for the same title, before the Filipino bowed out to Wandee Singwancha this year for the interim WBC light-flyweight crown.
In the chief support, Indonesia Sofyan Efendi figured in a split draw with Steve Dimaisip after eight rounds.
Drian Francisco prevailed on a TKO at 2:24 of the 5th round over Alex Guevarra; Noel Basto prevailed via UD over James Robert Balagan; Ronilo Sermona edged out Sandy Guarino by UD; Jessie Cabales by UD over Jun Sulay; Leo Ladip by UD over Renan Trongco; and Sylvestre Lopez by UD over Joey Balmes.
