Chris Bosh is withdrawing from the probable inclusion in the USA basketball team for the London Olympic Games so he can completely recover from the strained abdominal muscle that caused him to miss some of the playoff games of his team Miami Heat. This was disclosed by his agent Henry Thomas one day after Heat teammate Dwyane Wade also pulled out of the Olympic pool because of a recurring left knee surgery.

"I am extremely disappointed to say that due to injury, I cannot represent my country," he said. It was Heat team physician Dr. Harlan Selesnick who recommended a long rest for Bosh. The Heat mainstay played for the "Redeem Team" that won gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

?It's based upon the need to rest and continue to rehab the injury," Thomas said. "He got his first taste of it in '08, and it was a great experience. But I think in talking to the doctors about it, they said you could play, but you'd be putting yourself at risk."

With Wade and Bosh out of the USA Olympic team, only 16 players remain in consideration for the 12 spots. LeBron James remains as the only Heat player on the national team roster. Wade and Bosh joined the list of injured NBA stars who could not play in London including Derrick Rose and Dwight Howard. USA Basketball is planning to announce the Olympic roster probably on July 7.

On April 19, 2012, Howard's agent said that the Orlando Magic center would undergo surgery to repair an injured disk in his back, and missed the rest of the 2011?12 season, as well as the 2012 Olympics. Howard was the starting center of the gold-winning Redeem Team at Beijing in 2008.

During Game 1 of the playoff game against the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round, Rose injured his left knee while trying to jump. He underwent surgery with an estimated recovery period of 8-12 months. Rose was a starter for the US gold medalists during the 2010 FIBA World Basketball Championships.

Bosh averaged 9.1 points and 6.1 rebounds to help USA finish 8-0 and win the gold medal in Beijing. Wade led the team in scoring throughout the tournament and averaged a team high 16 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2.3 steals.

Bosh was injured late in the first half of Game 1 of Miami's second-round series against Indiana. He missed nine games, and returned late in the Eastern Conference finals against the Boston Celtics.

The remaining players to be considered in the USA Basketball team are: Carmelo Anthony (Knicks), Kobe Bryant (Lakers), Tyson Chandler (Knicks), Kevin Durant (Thunder), Rudy Gay (Grizzlies), Eric Gordon (Hornets), Blake Griffin (Lakers), James Harden (Thunder), Andre Iguodala (76rs), LeBron James (Heat), Kevin Love (Timberwolves), Lamar Odom (Mavericks), Chris Paul (Clippers), Russell Westbrook (Thunder), Deron Williams (Nets), and Anthony Davis of the 2012 NCAA Champions Kentucky Wildcats, the No.1 draft pick of the New Orleans Hornets.
