DEMECILLO-SINGWANGCHA RISES FROM THE CANVAS TO K.O. MABAIT (PHOTOS)

MACTAN - It was d?j? vu for Marco Demecillo Singwangcha in the opening round. Just like in their first meeting three years ago, Marvin Mabait knocked him down. This time Demecillo was really hurt. Three hard hooks to the head sent him sprawling and he was unsteady and ready for the taking when he got up.
Mabait pounced and pinned Demecillo-Singwangcha on the ropes and landed more hooks to the body and head. Marco covered up and landed enough body shots to prevent referee Ben Necessario from stopping the contest.
In the second round, Mabait looked spent and it was time for Demecillo to turn the tide. This time, Mabait was trapped on the ropes and was at the receiving end of vicious hooks and uppercuts to the body. Mabait stood his ground and bravely engaged Marco in close quarter exchanges that brought the crowd to their feet.
The third round bell sounded and the crowd yelled themselves hoarse as Demecillo pounded Mabait on the ropes and landed one hard punch after another. A stunning left sent Mabait crashing in the neutral corner and as the referee commenced the ten count, trainer Carl Pe?alosa signaled that he did not want their boxer to continue.
Official time- 1:12. Demecillo-Singwangcha (16W-0L-1D, 12KO's) was mobbed by the crowd and the media after the stunning title win. The Philippine superflyweight title changed hands and Mabait (16W-1L-2D,10 KO's) suffered his first career loss. They fought to a four round majority draw at the Cebu Coliseum in 2009.
Everyone present at the covered court of the Mactan Shrine Sunday night were in agreement that this was a Philippine Fight of the Year candidate.

Marco Demecillo-Singwangcha, assisted by his promoter Naris Singwangcha (3rd from left), is declared the winner by Referee Ben Necesario.
Promoter Rex ?Wakee? Salud was elated with his Marco?s win and plans to match him with a foreign foe. ?He is even ready for Mexican boxers,? Salud told philboxing after the fight. Thai boxing patron Naris Singwangcha was also present and presented his boxer with additional cash incentives.
For the supporting bouts:
Fernando ?Batang Bato? Ocon won by majority decision against Jay-R Estremos in a bruising ten round contest. The scores 95-95, 97-94 and 97-93.
Marlou Sandoval Singwangcha won a narrow unanimous decision over Jonathan Ricablanca. The scores were 76-75 for all three judges. Ricablanca was deducted a point for repeated low blows midway and this cost him the fight.
Jayson Redondo Singwangcha and Jayvee Alipio fought to a three round technical draw. An acciental clash of heads inflicted a cut on the left eyebrow of Alipio and Dr.Jose Unabia recommended the fight stoppage of the scheduled eight rounder.
Rajah Renoel Pael surprised Joseph Alteza with a barrage of punches at the opening bell and deposited him flat on the canvas. Referee Nick Banal stopped the fight at the 1:06 mark and Alteza received assistance from the medical personnel at ringside. He was able to walk out of the ring unassisted. Pael is the Buhay Boksingero 2011 flyweight division winner.
Sesustener Llanera Singwangcha knocked Rodel Wenceslao with a hard left hook in the third round. Wenceslao got up but Llanera jumped in for the kill prompting referee Tony Pesons to waive off the fight at 1:08 preventing additional punishment on Wenceslao.
Lyndel Radoc Singwangcha beat Junior Salvador by unanimous decision after 6 rounds in a fan friendly brawl. The scores 59-55,59-55 and 58-56.
Ardie ?TI Yamagata? Boyosi won by unanimous decision against Ranel Pasunting. The scorecards read 40-37,40-36 and 40-36. In the opening bout, Kenny Demecillo Singwangcha needed only 45 seconds and a left hook to the liver to dispose of Junmar Sahay.
The bouts were supervised by the Games and Amusements Board of Cebu.
POSTSCRIPT:
The island of Mactan is the site of the one of the most famous battles in Philippine history. Mabait and Demecillo-Singwangcha waged a ring war a few meters away from the shrine of the chieftain Lapu-lapu and they proved worthy of the historic backdrop.
